Barcelona player Oshoala meets First Lady, President Tinubu in Lagos

Days after leaving Abuja for Lagos to celebrate the Christmas and New Year celebrations, Barcelona Femini forward Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady of Nigeria, met the player at their house today.

Remember that Asisat is the CAF Women’s Player of the Year right now. She recently won her sixth CAF Award, making her the African football player with the most Player of the Year honors.

She was also acknowledged for her exceptional performance in the 2022 edition and received a nomination for the Women’s Ballon d’Or for the second year in a row.

Recall that on August 7, 2023, in the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the First Lady hosted members of the Super Falcons, a Nigerian women’s football team.

The meeting took place following England’s elimination of the Super Falcons from the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Below are pictures from Asisat’s visit to President Tinubu’s home in Lagos:

As Joe Aribo, a Nigerian midfielder, scored his first goal for the English Championship team in over a year, Southampton Coach Russell Martin celebrated him.

Joe Aribo’s goal for Southampton on Tuesday, December 26, came after he had to wait over a year. This suggests that Aribo is getting back to his previous level of play, particularly from his time at Glasgow Rangers.

Aribo’s precise finish from the edge of the area gave Southampton a 5-0 victory over Swansea. After Che Adams had opened the scoring in the first half, Ryan Fraser added a brace, and English youth international Sam Edoziee, who was born in Nigeria, scored twice.

In the sixteenth minute, the Super Eagles midfielder scored his first goal in 452 days. Before the English team was relegated to the second division at the conclusion of the 2023–2024 campaign, he scored his final goal for the squad on October 1, 2022, in their 2-1 Premier League loss to Everton.

Russell told reporters how comfortable he had felt starting Joe Aribo against Swansea following Southampton’s convincing victory, calling the Nigerian “a beast” in the weight room.

“Joe Aribo trained like a beast and didn’t express irritation toward the other players when he wasn’t playing. Russell remarked, “He would come talk to me and vent his frustration.”

Remember that Aribo’s poor play and lack of playing time began prior to Southampton’s season-ending relegation to the Championship? He did not, regrettably, manage to return to form on a regular basis outside of the Boxing Day match against Swansea.

Aribo has appeared in eighteen games this season, starting six of them, but the Nigerian international doesn’t think that’s a problem.

Because we all work toward this goal together, for me, it’s all about being a good teammate and supporting my boys. A team is made up of all the men, not just one, according to Aribo.

It has taken a very long time! I answered “to score” when someone asked me what I would want for Christmas earlier on Tuesday. I’m grateful to God because I was granted my request.
