The sit-at-home order declared by the Indigenous People of Biafra ( IPOB) in South-East for Tuesday partly in protest of President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to Imo State recorded partial compliance in Anambra State.

Recall that the New National Star had reported that IPOB had declared a sit-at-home protest across the South-East for September 13 ahead of the Appeal Court hearing of Nnamdi Kanu’s case, and President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to Imo

The secessionist group had tagged the October 13 sit-at-home protest “a day of civil action across the South-East”, as contained in a statement to the the press by its publicist, Emma Powerful.

In the Tuesday’s sit-at-home protest, banks, filling stations and department stores in Awka and other major cities in the state were closed.

There were scanty vehicular movements in the Awka, the state capital and environs while in Onitsha, Nnewi Ekwulobia and environs there were total compliance to the secessionists’ order.

Similarly, the Eke-Awka market at the state’s capital was skeletally open while shops in residential areas were open for business activities.

Government offices and allied establishments at the state capital were all under lock and key. It was also gathered that the situation was the same across the major cities in the state of Onitsha, Nnewi and Ekwulobia and Ihiala.

Commenting on the development, a resident, Agu Osunkwo said, “Buhari safely and successfully visited Imo State and left. In Anambra State, the hub of the acclaimed Igbo wisdom and intelligence, after last weekend’s harvest of blood at Enugwu-Ukwu, we, very ‘wisely,’ harmfully short down all the life-giving social and economic activities as commanded by IPOB”.
