The governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, has assigned the World Bank program Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) to support government efforts in offering options to lessen the expected flood this rainy season.
Buni made the announcement on Tuesday after hosting a group from ACReSAL and the World Bank.
Building drainage systems to divert floodwaters away from towns and villages is the most effective way to prevent flooding, according to a statement released by the governor’s media assistant, Mamman Mohammed.
According to Buni, “this needs to be handled as an emergency and a public matter of great urgency to prevent the impending threat posed by the predicted flood.”
He further pleaded for the adoption of sufficient policies to enhance the resilience of displaced
He further pleaded that sufficient steps be taken to protect the rebuilt homes from flooding and to bolster the resilience of relocated communities and the state government’s resettlement program.
Ms. Joy Iyanga Agene, the ACReSAL Team Leader, pledged to assist the state administration in rescuing the populace.
She praised the Yobe State government for creating an environment that improved project performance within the state.
