Depositors have been reassured by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) that the money in their bank accounts is secure.
This guarantee was provided by the CBN on Wednesday in a statement that was signed by Hakama Sidi-Ali, its spokesperson.
According to Sidi-Ali, the CBN became aware of reports in several media channels regarding a suggestion that the federal government take over some financial institutions under its supervision.
“To be clear, Nigerian banks are still safe and sound,” stated Sidi-Ali.
The CBN advises the public to carry on with their daily activities without becoming concerned by unofficial claims regarding the state of Nigerian banks.
“The CBN has everything it needs to fulfill its mandate to maintain a healthy financial system in Nigeria.
“We guarantee depositors and the general public that their money is safe in Nigerian financial institutions.”
Additionally, Sidi-Ali told bank customers not to worry and to carry on with their regular financial activities.
