A Non Governmental Organization , Centre For Community Actions for Peace and Development (CCAPAD) with headquarter in Jos Plateau State have come up with solutions to how religious differences can be deradicalized
In a Ten days workshop which kicked started in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State , on Thursday at Surcecestial Hotel and Gardens , stake holders were drawn from all security’s formations , traditional , religious leaders and others attended the opening ceremony.
The Executive Director , Centre for Community Actions for Peace and Development, Mr Ahmed Salihu presented a paper he titled FORB and DERADICALIZATION
In an interview ,Ahmed Salihu said CCAPAD is a none governmental organization that is registered with all the registration bodies in Nigeria ,including some international non governmental organizations ,especially EU ,the US and other platforms .
According to him, the organization is headquarter in Jos with regional offices across the North East.” So we are into Human Rights,peace and good governance.
Giving a brief background about the CCAPAD , Salihu posited that it was because of the concern they have with issues that have to do with serious religious differences based on research , saying the research was conducted in the name of based line and it reveals certain things that needed to be address.
“One of the key things that need to be address was in the area of religious intolerance .
” So we decided to come up with the project , titled Faith for Peace and we got fundings from the European Union, being supported by Bread for the World Germany, so we are implementing the project in Nasarawa, which is to cover Lafia, Keffi and Karu” He added.
Ahmed Salihu painted out that despite Nigeria being a circular state but circularism has no place in the system on the basis of reality.
He further said apart from organizing meetings with stakeholders ,they are also engaged in youths empowerments and trying to see to how it can bridge the existing gap between the rich and the poor, the leaders and the led.
Contributing, Yusuf Ayuba Abdullahi , the programme manager for Centre for Community Actions for Peace Development, said the project is implemented in Karu with a designed to cover 3 LGAs of Nasarawa State.
Yusuf added that whole idea is to empower community based organizations , stakeholders to see how they can improved in ensuring that there is peaceful coexistence as well as protect Human Rights , along side good governance at all levels.
A participant, Yakubu Abdulrahaman , said the workshop was apt and very educative in the sense that this is the kind of programmes that communities need to be sensitise about.
According to him, so many Nigerians don’t know anything about their rights nor are they averse to the constitution ” so this kind of project is what is going to open our eyes and give us the real insight of what we are supposed to do.
Also, Mary Abah , a personal of the Nigeria Immigration Services, Karu Division, said the workshop has really dedicated her especially on and peace making and how to avoid conflict as well as to manage crisis.
