Central African Republic President, Touadera Sworn In For Second Term

The President of Central African Republic, Faustin-Archange Touadera was today sworn-in for a second term.

The 63-year-old president has been in power since 2016, but has struggled to seize control of vast parts of the nation from armed militias, three years after former President Francois Bozize was ousted by another rebellion.

Touadera was reelected in the first round of the presidential vote on Dec. 27 with 53.9 percent of the votes, the National Election Authority said. Its president Mathias Morouba said that Touadera won an absolute majority. Anicet-Georges Dologuele came in second with 21.1 percent of the vote, and Martin Ziguele came in third with 7.4 percent, according to the results announced.
