In lieu of Atletico Madrid president, Enrique Cerezo, the newly-appointed head coach of Chelsea, Mauricio Pochettino, has expressed his disinterest in permanently acquiring forward Joao Felix.
Felix joined Stamford Bridge on a five-month loan deal from Atletico Madrid in January, valued at £9m. However, the 23-year-old player only managed to score four goals in 20 games during his time at Stamford Bridge.
Cerezo has now revealed that Chelsea will not exercise their option to sign Felix permanently, following Pochettino’s instructions. Cerezo stated, “Yesterday, we received the news that the new Chelsea manager does not want João Félix.
We were informed less than 24 hours ago. Felix will return to Atletico Madrid, and we will assess the situation accordingly. We currently have no specific plans in place.”
