Court Grants Ndume Bail

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Friday, granted the bail application pending appeal filed by Borno South Senator, Ali Ndume, who has been detained in prison since Monday, 23rd November 2020 over his suretyship for Abdulrasheed Maina who is believed to have jumped bail.

Maina, a former Chairman of the defunct Pension Reformed Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina, is being prosecuted by the EFCC on charges of money laundering involving N2bn.

Justice Okon Abang granted him bail pending determination of the court of appeal. The judge ruled that the surety must be a resident of Abuja, a responsible citizen in the society who must also have an evidence of ownership of property anywhere in Nigeria. He also asked that the Senator submits his international passport pending his hearing at the court of appeal and sign an undertaking within 10 days.

Ndume, through his lawyer, Marcel Oru, had on Tuesday filed an appeal against the remand order at the Court of Appeal, along with an application for the bail of the defendant filed before Justice Abang.
