Court Orders Remand Of Cultist on Four Count Charge

A grade 1 Area Court in Karu, Abuja has ordered the remand of a cultist for joint acts, extortion, criminal force, illegal act and membership of an unlawful society contrary to section 79, 292, 262, 250 and 97(a) of the penal code law.

The prosecution counsel, Barr Adeyanyu Ayotunde told the court that the accused committed the offence on 2nd October at a beer parlour in Angwan Tiv Karu Abuja.

He went on to say that Moses conspired with his other cult members who are presently at large, to fight him and take away his phone worth Four Thousand Naira and the sum of Six Thousand Seven Hundred and Fifty Naira from his pocket, used a bottle to hit him on his head inflicting injuries on him.

The Accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges. The defence counsel, Barr Bridget Abang moved a motion for his bail orally but the judge refused oral bail application.

In his ruling, Justice Inuwa Maiwada ordered that the accused be remanded at Suleja custodial centre till 19th October 2020.

The court ordered that the defence counsel come formally on the motion of notice and affidavit to show the cause why the defendant should be granted bail.

He adjourned the case to 3rd November 2020.
