On Tuesday, US Republican presidential contender Donald Trump and British Foreign Secretary David Cameron will meet in Florida.
This comes after efforts to strengthen backing for Ukraine and push through a fresh aid package that is being blocked by Congress.
“The foreign secretary will meet former President Trump in Florida today ahead of his visit to Washington,” a Foreign Office official said in a statement on Monday.
“Ministers regularly engage in bilateral meetings with opposition candidates as part of their overseas engagement.”
Cameron and Trump spoke on Ukraine, the Gaza War, and the future of NATO. This is reportedly the first time a top UK official has met with Trump since he left office.
Trump has expressed doubts about US support for NATO—an international organization that the US has pledged to protect when necessary—and his concerns about aid to Ukraine on multiple occasions.
While in Washington, Cameron will urge legislators to approve “urgent” more funding for Kyiv, warning that the country’s victory over Russia is “vital for American and European security.”
