Nasarawa State government is to sell a bag of fertilizer at the rate of seven Thousand Naira (N7000) during the 2021/2022 dry season farming.
Governor Abdullahi Sule stated this during the flag-off ceremony of the sale of fertilizer for the 2021/2022 dry season farming on Wednesday in Lafia, the State Capital.
According to him, the State government has procured 600 metric tonnes of fertilizers for the season, adding that the price was subsidized to enable farmers to purchase the commodity without stress.
The governor who explained that each bag of the fertilizer was bought at the rate of N9,300, said the State government decided to fix the price at the rate of N7000 due to government determination to assist the farmers.
The governor who revealed that the State is blessed with fertile land for the production of Arable crops as well as sesame seeds farming, expressed concern that despite this opportunity, the State is yet to export Sesame seed to other parts of the World.
According to him, Nasarawa State is the first in cassava production, second in yam farming and fifth in rice production.
He advised the dry season farmers to utilize the opportunity given by the State government to put in their best in their chosen careers to better their lives.
Earlier, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and rural development, Malam Nuhu Usman Bunu who commended the State Governor for all the supports he has given to the ministry, promised his continue support toward the success of the current administration.
He warned farmers in the State to avoid diversion of the commodity and pledged to deal with anyone found wanting in that regard.
In his remark, General Manager, Nasarawa Agricultural Development Programme ( NADP), Mr Emmanuel Allanana, who assured that the kind gesture of the governor would be reciprocated by ensuring that the commodity is not diverted at any level, assured the farmers that the State government will continue to do her best to ensure that fertilizers and other farm inputs are provided to them at affordable prices.
