A small group of six miners who had been stranded by a powerful earthquake that shook Taiwan were freed on Thursday.
The men were removed from the catastrophe scene by helicopter, according to an announcement made by the authorities on Thursday morning.
Another quarry still held 64 ensnared laborers.
More than 400 kg of supplies were delivered to them via helicopter by the military.
According to official information, there are now 1,050 confirmed injured, and about 50 persons who are missing have not been contacted.
Although there were still about 100 people stuck in the road tunnels, authorities don’t think their lives were in jeopardy.
According to officials, the region surrounding the city of Hualien is the main focus of the search for the missing and trapped persons.
There was significant damage caused by Wednesday’s earthquake, which measured 7.2 on the Chinese scale.
The nine reported deaths to date have all occurred in the same region on Taiwan’s east coast, which also happens to be the epicenter of the earthquake.
Following the powerful earthquake, the officials recorded 314 aftershocks in the area as of Thursday morning.
