Governor of Ebonyi state Francis Nwifuru has continued to wield the big stick on members of the State Executive Committee, as he has suspended the fourth commissioner in the past two weeks over alleged gross misconduct
The governor, who had earlier suspended three, announced the indefinite suspension of the fourth commissioner, Uchenna Igwe, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, citing alleged gross misconduct and dereliction of duty.
Governor Nwifuru announced the suspension of the commissioner during a press briefing at his office in the Ochudo Centenary City, Abakaliki, on Monday. The suspension, which takes immediate effect, stems from Igwe’s failure to fulfill a critical assignment related to local government pension payments involving a council chairman in the state.
Igwe’s suspension adds to a growing list of commissioners penalized under Nwifuru’s administration. Just last month, the governor indefinitely suspended the Commissioners for Housing and Urban Development, and Water Resources, while handing a three-month suspension to the Commissioner for Health, all on similar grounds of negligence and misconduct.
Governor Nwifuru emphasized his administration’s unwavering commitment to the “People’s Charter of Needs,” stating that only those who align with his vision of efficient service delivery will be retained in government.
