The most prestigious among the best secondary schools in Nigeria and beyond, the ever celebrated in discipline and academic excellence worldwide, Government Secondary School, Afikpo (GSSA) has gotten new set of school functionaries, who shall pilot the affairs of the school, in conjunction with the school management, for the 2023/2024 academic year.
In his address at the ceremony, the school Principal, Mr. Ogbonnia Nwachi, popularly known as the Digital Principal, commended the committee that painstakingly and thoroughly interviewed, screened and selected the best students from among all that applied for different posts in the school, describing their efforts as unbiased and excellent.

He also thanked the out-gone school functionaries led by the now emeritus Captain of School, Master Chukwu Abraham Chukwudi, popularly known as Mega Star, for his exceptional intelligence and academic prowess; for working assiduously for the betterment of the school all through their eventful tenure and for always co-operating with the school administration in the promotion of academic excellence and discipline, particularly in the administration’s determined fight against bullying in all its ugly ramifications and manifestations.
The Digital Principal charged the new functionaries to consider their positions as demanding of humongous responsibilities and do more to keep the school purple flag of glory flying higher and higher.

He equally demonstrated his gratitude and indeed extolled the Old Boys Association (OBA) of the school and the Alumni Association, AAA of the school overseas; as well as the Ebonyi State Government for providing the enabling environment in the school for effective teaching and learning to blossom.
Inaugurating the school functionaries for both Junior and Senior Sections of the school, Wednesday, a team of legal luminaries from different chambers in Afikpo, two of whom are Old Boys of the school and former students of the Principal; Barr. I. I. Egwu and Barr. Ifeanyichukwu Ologwu, with their female professional colleagues; Barr. Mrs Amanda Agha and Barr. Mrs Anastasia Okorie, implored the students to shun acts of indiscipline and aspire to become renowned professionals in the nearest future.
New National Star reports that the oath of office was administered by Barr. I. I. Egwu to the admiration of the staff and students of the school.

During the handover and takeover ceremony, the emeritus Captain of School, Master Chukwu Abraham Chukwudi, encouraged the new school functionaries to uphold the tenets of the school and join hands with the school administration to stamp-out acts of indiscipline, particularly bullying of junior students in the school, while promoting academic excellence which the school is known for.
He thanked the school administration for the opportunity given him and his lieutenants to serve their great school, describing the school Principal, Mr. Ogbonnia Nwachi, glowingly as a leader par excellence and a no-nonsense administrator, reminding the new school functionaries that bullying attracts expulsion: “You bully…, you go!”
In his acceptance speech on behalf of all the inaugurated school functionaries, the incumbent Captain of School, Master Oko Michael Egwu, thanked the school administration for finding them worthy of service to their great school, promising to improve on the standards set by their predecessors and drive the policies of the school administration to a logical implementation.
In her words of advice, the Principal, Junior section of the school, Mrs Uro Patricia, commended the past functionaries for doing their best and encouraged the new ones to do better, while enjoining the rest of the students to give them maximum support to succeed.
Closing prayer was conducted by the Dean of Studies, Pastor Oyari Agbi Oko, who doubles as the school orator.
