The Police Operatives attached to Ohaozara Divisional Headquarters in Ebonyi State have arrested one suspected armed robber with Nigeria Army camouflage at Ugwulangwu in Ohaozara Local Government Area of the State.
The Operatives arrested the suspect following a robbery incident that took place along Amasiri-Okigwe expressway by Oso-edda in Afikpo South LGA of the State.
Addressing newsmen, the Police Public Relation Officer, DSP Odah Loveth Obianuju disclosed that “On the 13th February 2021, the three men gang were alleged dressed on Nigeria Military camouflage accosted a bus driver, tied him down and robbed him of the said bus loaded with goods what Millions of Naira.
“The hoodlums diverted the goods to an unknown destination.
“Following the report by the driver of the said bus, Police Operatives trailed the suspected robbers to their hideout at Ugwulangwu in Ohaozara L.G.A of the State, on 17th February, 2021 where one of the suspects was arrested while the remaining two others took their heels.
“The items recovered from the suspect include: two locally made double barrel pistols, with three live cartridges, one revolver pistol with five live ammunition, some of the stolen goods and a pair of military camouflage.
‘The suspect confessed to crime and admitted that the said Camouflage belongs to their gang leader popularly known as “*Iron*” who is still at large.
“The suspect subsequently, led the Police Operatives to Amaenu-Uburu in Ohaozara L.G.A of the State in search of the gang leader and one other, who on sighting the Police took their heels and abandoning the remaining goods.
“However, the command is making frantic efforts to arrest the fleeing suspects.”
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police Ebonyi State Command, CP Aliyu Garba, while calling on the general public particularly, the victims of the said robbery incident on the aforementioned date along Amasiri-Okigwe expressway, to come along with relevant document(s) for identification/proof of ownership and possible claim of their goods.
He reiterated his commitment to the protection of the lives and properties of the citizens across the State.
The CP further enjoined the residents in the State to provide the Police with useful, relevant and timely information on activities of criminal elements in their Areas.
