Ehanire Visits Vandalised NAFDAC Centre, Pleads For Looted Drugs To Be Returned

Osagie Ehanire, Minister of Health has expressed concern over the looting of drugs at the National Agency for Drugs and Food Control (NAFDAC) in Kaduna State.

The minister was on a tour to the vandalised NAFDAC training centre in Kaduna State alongside Moji Adeyeye, Director-General of NAFDAC, officials of the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and Federal Ministry of Health to inspect and assess the damage done to NAFDAC facilities in Kaduna State on Monday.

He said, “The drugs are expired there is a need for them to be properly and professionally disposed-off because they are not drugs you throw into the dustbins or refuse dumps. They are capable of polluting the groundwater and can cause a lot of health hazards”.

Some of the drugs are expired, fake and some should have been destroyed and others prohibited from sale in the market.

He was also worried about the thoroughness of the vandals in ransacking the offices, stealing furniture and documents. He stated that repairs of the damage done will be costly, describing the incidence as ‘devastating and worse than can be imagined’.

It is suspected that the vandals were expecting to find COVID-19 palliatives stored at the site.

Ehanire appealed to the vandals to return the loots at an inconspicuous hour so they can be duly destroyed. He also said the help of the police will be employed to retrieve the drugs and the furniture stolen.

“We want to find ways to recalibrate and re-establish the place,” he said.
