Eleven people have been confirmed dead in an oil tanker explosion in Abuja on Sunday.
The explosion took place at the Gawu area in Abaji Local Government area, the Daily Post reports. A tanker trying to avoid colliding with a truck turned over. Residents of Gawu came out with jerry cans and buckets to loot oil.
The leaking fuel caught fire and 11 people including three Almajiri and a woman died.
Federal Road Safety Commission’s (FRSC) commandant in Abuja, Wobin Gora, confirmed the incident and said 10 others sustained injuries
“Eight men and two women who sustained burns have been rushed to the hospital for further treatment. Eleven were burnt to death due to the explosion,” Gora said.
