A unique polio vaccination program has begun, with approximately 1.5 million children in Jigawa State being the objective, under the direction of Emir Hameem Nuhu Sanusi of Dutse.
After he personally gave the vaccine to a few children and gave the community his word that it was both safe and effective, the event was held at his palace.
The emir gave the populace assurances that traditional institutions would keep up their pursuit and promotion of initiatives that would improve their social, economic, and health conditions.
In order to help the state maintain the progress gained in eradicating polio 13 years ago, Sanusi encouraged parents to take their kids outside for immunization.
Dr. Sambo Shehu, the State Director of the Primary Healthcare Agency, stated that plans had been put in place to guarantee the immunization campaign’s success.
He claimed that in order to reach every child in the state, more than 3,000 teams made up of more than 15,000 ad hoc workers were mobilized to provide the vaccination to over 1.5 million children aged 0 to 5.
“Our children’s immunity against any potential resurgence of the polio virus, which we have eradicated out of our state for the past 13 years,” stated Sambo, is the goal of the immunization.
“We ask everyone to play their expected role in achieving the desired goals, as it is our collective responsibility to protect our children and society from this and other deadly viruses.”
