EndBadGovernance: Governor Adeleke praises peaceful demonstration, suspension in Osun.

Ademola Adeleke, the governor of Osun State, has applauded the state’s decision to halt the End Bad Governance demonstration.

In addition, Governor Adeleke commended the protest organizers and participants for upholding law and order throughout the six-day event.

The Coalition for Concerned Nigerian Citizens, Osun State, the group organizing the demonstration, released a statement to which the governor expressed his appreciation through his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed.

“I applaud the Osun State youths for their peaceful expression of concerns and agitation for good governance in Nigeria,” the speaker added. They have preserved the quiet and peace for which Osun State is renowned. I appreciate their setting an example of excellent behavior in Osun.

As a state, we continue to prioritize advocating for laws and initiatives that will strengthen our community and welfare. In addition to paying student bursaries, we are building multiple roads and bridges, settling debts related to inherited salaries and cooperative deductions, renovating health centers and educational facilities, and soon ending the current teacher recruitment campaign to officially announce the establishment of the Imole Youth Corps. We have also given nearly four billion naira to cooperative bodies in the state to support SMEs.

“I would also like to express my gratitude to the commanders and security agencies for their extraordinary cooperation. My security team’s organized, cohesive strategy is another illustration that Osun can provide to other national institutions.

The protest, which had been peaceful in Osun State, was suspended indefinitely by the organizers on Tuesday.

During the protest, primarily held in Osogbo, the state capital, security agencies and personnel were stationed at various strategic locations and accompanied the protesters as they marched through major areas and streets in the capital.

The organizers stated that the protest was suspended after six days to make way for the celebration of the 2024 Osun Osogbo festival, which will conclude on Friday, August 9, 2024.

Additionally, Adeleke pledged to personally bring President Bola Tinubu the demands of the demonstrators for appropriate attention.

“At the next NEC meeting in Abuja, I will bring the protesters’ demands to the President for appropriate consideration, just as I promised. I applaud them for calling off the demonstration and reassure them that our government will keep fostering amicable communication with all societal members in order to fulfill our goal of seeing our beloved state thrive and develop.

On Thursday, August 1, 2024, the countrywide EndBadGovernance demonstration got underway. Its organizers said that the protest would continue ten days, finishing on Saturday, August 10, 2024.

The organizers of the peaceful demonstration in Osun State on Tuesday declared it to be suspended indefinitely.

Security agencies and personnel were stationed at several critical sites throughout the demonstration, which was mainly held in Osogbo, the state capital, and they joined the demonstrators as they marched along the capital’s main thoroughfares.

The protest was put on hold after six days, according to the organizers, so that the 2024 Osun Osogbo festival could be celebrated. The event will end on Friday, August 9, 2024.

In announcing the protest’s suspension on Tuesday, the organizers stated that the six-day demonstration had successfully informed decision-makers at all levels of government about the demands of the stakeholders.
