The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has directed its Social Development Secretariat (SDS) to immediately establish Mobile Courts to apprehend and conduct swift trial on cases of gender-based violence in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The administration gave the directive in Abuja on Tuesday at the end of the 17th FCT Executive Committee meeting, adding that the establishment of the Mobile Courts would serve as deterrent and justice to the victims.
The committee also disclosed that arrangements have been concluded for the establishment of more sexual assault referral centres in the FCT to serve as a shelter home for the survivors of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) across the territory, who have been abused and are experiencing trauma and need to be properly cared for.
The meeting stated that the administration is committed to building more shelter home for the survivors of sexual and gender-based violence that would accommodate the increasing cases of SGBV across the territory, even as it advises residents to avoid acts capable of precipitating sexual and gender-based violence.
The meeting, which was presided over by the minister of the FCT, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello, also directed the secretariat to initiate plans for the immediate re-integration of children who are in the various orphanage homes and have grown up, as well as activate the FCT Juvenile Correctional Centre.
In a statement by the director, information and communication,
Muhammad Hazat Sule, the Executive Committee meeting also  re-affirmed the position of the FCT Administration on street begging and other unwholesome practices within the Federal Capital City and insisted that it would continue to enforce all laws prohibiting such practices.
The meeting commended the Social Development Secretariat for the milestone recorded and for emerging top out of 15 Ministries Departments and Agencies (MDA’s) rated by the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs in handling cases of Gender Based Violence and urged the secretariat not to rest on its oars.
