FG Committee Agrees On A New Minimum Wage Of ₦70,000 With A Consequential Adjustment

Regarding the resultant adjustment for the payment of the newly agreed national minimum wage of ₦70,000 for Nigerian workers, the federal government committee has agreed.
According to a source with knowledge of the committee’s operations, the committee has reached a consensus on a particular course of action for any necessary compensation changes in light of the new minimum wage, Naija News said on Friday.

Recall that on Thursday, the federal government established a 16-person committee on significant salary adjustments to discuss matters about the National Minimum Wage Act of 2024.

The Federation’s Head of Service, Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack, gave the committee its inaugural instalment. According to her, the government’s decision became necessary to keep the federal civil servants’ pay scale just and equitable.

She states that “other staffer categories’ salaries need to be adjusted, taking into consideration the consequential effect of the new minimum wage.”

To carry out the mandate of the National Minimum Wage Act of 2024, the Federal Government authorized the formation of a sixteen-member committee on consequential salary changes.

“The Federal Government and Trade Union sides each have eight members in this.”

The committee’s mandate is to provide a framework for adjusting other staff categories while accounting for the impact of the new minimum wage, which went up from ₦30,000 to ₦70,000.
