The federal government has debunked a report that it appealed to celebrity businessman, Obi Iyiegbu popularly known as Obi Cubana to obtain a loan from him.
The government in a reaction through the Ministry of Information and Culture denied any such development.
An online medium had published a story that the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed approached the businessman on behalf of the government to obtain a loan from him because ‘Nigeria is collapsing.’
But the Ministry in a disclaimer on Sunday released via its official Facebook page labelled the report as fake news.
The online news medium had published a report with the headline: “Obi Cubana has this kind of money and Nigeria is borrowing money from China. Cubana should borrow us money, Nigeria is collapsing- Lai Mohammed”.
Bu the Ministry responded by placing a ‘Fake News’ stamp on the report.
It will be recalled that Obi Cubana has been in the news recently due to the lavish spending for his mother’s funeral in Oba, a town in Idemili South local government area of Anambra State.
The town has been turned into a pilgrimage centre and melting pot with the event attracting several celebrities, businessmen, musicians, and politicians.
