The Federal Government has declared that it will no longer be evaluating or accrediting degree diplomas from Togo and the Benin Republic.
On behalf of the Federal Ministry of Education’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Augustina Obilor-Duru signed a statement on Tuesday, January 2, containing this information.
The Daily Nigerian Newspaper’s investigative piece, “UNDERCOVER: How DAILY NIGERIAN reporter bagged Cotonou varsity degree in 6 weeks,” which was published last week, is allegedly what prompted the decision, according to the Duru.
In order to obtain graduate job possibilities for which they are unqualified, “some Nigerians deploy nefarious means and unconscionable methods to get a degree,” the federal government bemoaned.
The announcement states that the suspension is in place while the results of an inquiry into the matter are awaited. The investigation involves the Department of State Security Services (DSS), the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC), and the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Education of Nigeria and the two nations.
