In order to meet up with the directive of President Muhammadu Buhari to add five million more public primary schools pupils into its school free feeding program, and already existing nine million school children benefiting from the program, the ministry of Humanitarian Affairs are in Abia state to make the directive a success.
The team leader, Mrs. Florence Chukwude representing the minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management on the school enumeration exercise made this known to newsmen in Umuahia.
She stated that the exercise was designed to capture pupils in primary one to primary there classes, adding that one thousand and thirty primary schools in Abia state are already benefiting from the program.
Mrs. Chukwude said that the program has increased the number of pupils in public schools in the state and thanked the headteachers, cooks and the state government for making the effort of the federal government a huge success.
She equally pointed out that the verification exercise will bring effectiveness, transparency, accountability and sustainability to the school feeding program, and called on the state government to assist in making the exercise a success.
It will be recalled that the National Orientation Agency (NOA) Abia state, through its state director Dr(Mrs.) Ngozi Okechukwu has assisted in the distribution of the enumeration forms to pupils in the state for the exercise.
