A Kaduna-based agri-tech company, Pullus Africa Solutions Ltd, has launched the Pullus app to support poultry farmers access guaranteed premium markets, insurance and affordable finance.
The app will also help to keep track of records and access to extension services.
Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the organisation, Mrs. Opeoluwa Fayomi said Pullus is Africa’s first poultry focused-supply chain platform, using technology to boost local poultry production and supply chain by giving farmers access to these services.
Mrs. Fayomi while speaking at the official launch of the app, said the solution followed one year of intense discussion with poultry farmers where the organisation discovered three major problems plaguing poultry farmers.
“After one year of discussion with farmers, we discovered three major problems, those are the problems that Pullus wants to address among which is access to premium and quality markets.
She added that Pullus is also set to work with 10,000 Nigerian farmers in the next two years.
Mrs. Fayomi said all the farmers need to do is to sign-up on the company’s application.
Also speaking at the event, Margret Ado who has been a member of the Pullus community testified how the Pullus Solution helped to improve her profitability by 30 per cent through advisory services and connecting her to the right market.
The CEO further reported that farmers make 30 per cent more profits when they use Pullus than when they grow and sell normally without Pullus.
“We have over 3000 farmers already in our network working with us. We’ve given access to about 300 farmers to be able to use the platform.
“Poultry is mostly a nucleated business, especially in many parts of Nigeria. But Pullus is addressing this by making it more enticing and worthwhile to farmers.
“Pullus also seeks to help many farmers who had their poultry shut down due to the Covid-19 pandemic through strategies that will be deployed in the next few months,” she said.
She emphasized that the goal is to use the Pullus Solution to improve the livelihood of poultry farmers in Africa, starting with Nigeria, and help them grow sustainably and attain maximum profit.
“As the demand for poultry meat is on the high at a projected annual growth rate of 4.1% between 2023 and 2030 yet, many poultry farmers are suffering because they do not have the right tools, access and resources to manage and grow their businesses,” she noted.
She further added that the first solution grants access to premium quality markets, noting that a lot of poultry farmers are forced to sell their poultry birds at a loss because they lack access to the right market.
“There’s a lot of middlemen interference that shortens their profit. Pullus will help to stop that by connecting them to the right and direct market at premium prices.
“We want to raise the bar by bringing the attention of the world, Federal Government, investors and policymakers to look at the industry and deploy the required resources,” she stated.
