Senator Ahmad Lawan, President of the 9th Sunday, appealed to the federal government to provide sustainable solutions such as constructing drainage systems and embankments to control water flow to mitigate the impact of future disasters in parts of the country affected by flooding.
He said, “I commend the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (YOSEMA), for commencing efforts to provide assistance to the victims.”
He also asked for more to be done to address the immediate and long-term needs of those affected by natural disasters.
He added, “I urge both agencies to urgently provide additional relief materials such as food, shelter, clothing, and medical supplies, as well as support to the affected communities.”
Separately, he donated 25 million naira to Nguru, a town severely affected by recent flooding; and N5m to displaced persons in Karasuwa local government area, respectively, in Yobe North.
Media Adviser to Senator Lawan, Ezrel Tabiowo, said the former Senate President made the donation when he paid a visit to Nguru and Karasuwa local government areas to assess the extent of damage caused by recent flooding.
Senator Lawan urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA); and Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (YOSEMA) to, as a matter of urgency, address the immediate and long-term needs of those displaced by flooding in Yobe North Senatorial District.
He commended ongoing efforts by both agencies to provide assistance to the victims.
The lawmaker urged residents of the affected communities in Yobe north senatorial district to cooperate with relevant authorities and follow instructions on safety measures.
Kano: Gov Yusuf orders probe of
award of contract to Kwankwaso’s brother
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has directed the State Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission (PCACC) to investigate alleged contract award for the supply of drugs to the 44 Local Government Councils of the state.
The governor also extended the probe to the alleged contract that was recently awarded to one Musa Garba Kwankwaso, who is said to be the brother of the leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party ( NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Recall that the state government was recently accused of directing all 44 Local Government Councils to pay N10 million each for the supply of drugs which was awarded to one company – Novomed, owned by Musa Garba Kwankwaso.
The expose has generated wide reactions and commentaries across social media platforms.
But governor Yusuf, while denying knowledge of the development, directed the probing of the alleged contract awards
The governors directive was contained in a statement jointly signed by the Commissioner of Information Baba Halilu Dantiye and Director General, Media and Publicity to the Governor, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa
“The Governor therefore directed the Executive Chairman, Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) to immediately investigate the allegation and report the outcome for further necessary action.
“Gov Yusuf also urged the good people of Kano State to exercise patience pending the outcome of the investigation,” the statement stated.
