As the ruling, All Progressives Congress (APC) prepares to elect national officers to run the affairs of the party, a major stakeholder in the party has advised other aspirants for the post of national chairman to step down for former Governor Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari of Zamfara State.
National Coordinator of APC Aspirants Forum, Bashir Muhammed Dala, who disclosed this to New National Star in an interview in Abuja, said all APC aspirants in the 2019 general elections that lost at the primary elections have made up their minds to support the candidacy of Yari.
According to him, Yari is the only party man that can effectively run the party and lead it to victory in the 2023 general elections. Three ex-ANPP governors have shown interest in becoming the national chairman of the party at the June 2021 national convention of the party.
They include former Governors Ali Modu Sheriff of Borno State, Alhaji Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari of Zamfara State and Senator Kashim Ibrahim Shettima of Borno State. Senator Umaru Tanko Al-makura, the former governor of Nasarawa State is also said to be in the race for the party’s number one position.
But, Bashir said the forum after examining the contributions, competence, and experience of all the aspirants, concluded that Yari was the most qualified, fit, proper, and appropriate party man to occupy the national chairmanship position.
