The style of the raid is denounced by the management of FUTA, according to a statement made by the institution’s spokesperson, Adegbenro Adebanjo, because it may have hurt or injured anyone physically or psychologically.
As previously reported, at around two in the morning, EFCC agents raided the lodges of a few FUTA students in the Orita Obele neighborhood of Akure.
Students and social media users have reacted furiously to the raid, sharing videos and testimonies claiming that some students were arrested and that other students were forced into rooms.
Damaged window frames are visible in photos posted online, which are allegedly the result of the operatives’ attempts to enter the lodges.
In response to the news, FUTA management stated that although the raid happened in off-campus lodges, there were concerns about the timing and execution of the operation.
It further stated that although the organization does not support or encourage illegal activity in any form, the EFCC should always adhere to due process.
The organization further stated that in order to find out who was arrested during the operation, it is in contact with the EFCC.
FUTA opposes all anti-social behavior, including criminal activity in all its manifestations, and it backs all efforts to hold offenders accountable for their deeds within the bounds of the law. Students who violate the laws governing their studentship or engage in unlawful or disruptive behavior may face varying degrees of punishment, according to university rules and regulations found in the Students Code of Conduct as outlined in the University Handbook and the oath of matriculation that all students are required to sign.
