The Provost Nasarawa State College of Health , Science and Technology (NCHST) Dr Abdullahi Suleiman Mohammad has described governor Abdullahi Sule as a governor without border who has transformed the state.
According to him, the colossal sectorial developments across different sectors of the state have jacked the state economy by migrating from a purely civil servant state to a business state.
Dr Suleiman Mohammad made this statement when journalists covering Nasarawa West Senatorial Zone paid him a visit on Friday in his office in Keffi to spotlight recent development recorded by the College under his administration .
He first of all thanked the Governor Engineer Abdullahi Sule for his determination and commitment which are result oriented as it has lifted the state to a viable business state.
He further said the impact of the current administration in the state has graciously and positively added value on education, health and in commerce that in no distance time citizens of the state will benefit.
The provost revealed that the coming on board of Engineer Sule as governor of Nasarawa State has helped in the upgrade of the institution , thereafter it relocation to a permanent site.
” So after the relocation we felt that the law he signed should be used for advocacy and we advocated to NBTE and they came here some years ago, gave us accreditation and then the name was change to College .
“As we moved on , we were given full accreditation for 3 programs and graduated students in same programs at ND level last year.
“We again approached the NBTE, invited them to come back and look whether we can further the programs to enable us become a HND awarding institution and they were here in August and we’re amazed and issued us automatic approval to continue with the programs at HND level, being the 2023 / 2024 academics session” He stated.
The provost stopped at nothing but announced that the programs included environmental Health Technology, Nutrition and Dietetics, as well as HND in Health Information Technology and Management. Adding that having these programs the college has now becomes a HND awarding institution.
Dr Suleiman reiterated that achieving the laudable success, the college again applied for additional HND program and gain approval in two more courses which includes Community Health at National Diploma level and then in Dispensary Optimistic.
He pointed out that ” We had some setbacks when we introduced a course ” Biomedical Engineering Technology” but when they came , they assisted us , gave us some advice which we presented same to the governor and we got a quick respond from the governor to go ahead. Today we have sent a letter inviting NBTE to reassess the additional courses to be among those we can award ND.
“The courses are medical imaging and X-Ray processing, Public Health and Health Technology and Disease, so these are the programs that we are looking forward to probably by November to give us assessment, in other for us to move as ND awarding in them” He added.
And clearing the air on alleged shortage in manpower and use of volunteers as teaching staff, the provost said it has became a thing of the past with the expressed approval given to us since January and teaching staff were automatically employed as full time lecturers.
He added that the institution thereafter the engagement of 25 teachers applied for another 67 to be employ which he belief is on the verge of approval.
“Let me be frank with you here, the college has ICT equipment worth Twenty One Million Naira that has been installed courtesy, the former minister of State , Science and Technology who is one of our own , Barrister Abdullahi Hassan Mohammed, we got the equipment in two batches. The first and second batch was given to us in July.
Secondly we invited the DG National Bureau for Technical Education he was here a year before last .
“During our matriculation ceremony and he made a pledge that his agency will collaborate with this college to establish a pharmacy Laboratory where local drugs are going to be manufacture, that is one process that we are following at the moment” He said.
