Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, on Wednesday inaugurated the newly installed Flood early warning system in Umaisha, Toto Local Government Council of the State.
The programme was part of the Governor’s scheduled activities to mark his two Years in Office, come May 29, 2021.
Speaking at the occasion, Gov. Sule said the equipment was put in place to serve as an alert to members of the Community whenever there would be flood in the area.
” I am here as part of activities to mark my two years in office and to meet you and hear from you in order to take the state to the next level of development, It is important that I speak with the Community that is directly involved in the project”.
According to him the project look small because it is automated, adding that It’s expensive due to the amount of money expended on it.
He called on people of the area to keep watch over the equipment to avoid been vandalized by criminals.
“I call on you to do the best you can to protect the project, If you protect the project, by the grace of God, whenever there is going to be flood, the equipment will warn the Community that there is going to be flood”.
The governor who earlier paid homage to the traditional ruler of the area, the Ohimege Opanda, Alhaji Abdullahi Usman, commended the monarch and other stakeholders of the area for promoting peaceful coexistence.
Responding, the Ohimege Opanda, Abdullahi Usman who expressed gratitude over the Flood monitoring equipment sited in his domain, thanked the Governor for his tireless effort in managing security issues in the State.
The Royal Father made an appeal for the deployment of more troops to the area in order to tackle banditry and kidnapping.
The Monarch who also made a case for the establishment of tertiary institution in the area as well as the rehabilitation of Toto/ Umaisha road, assured that people of the area will continue to remain peaceful and support government bid to bring development to the State.
