A Network of Civil Society Organizations of Nigeria have called on Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission to provide a level playing ground for all Political Parties that would participate in this week’s Local Government Councils election in the State.
Nasarawa State Government has scheduled this Week Wednesday for election in the 13 Local Government Councils of the State.
Speaking during a Media briefing at the Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Nasarawa Council on Monday, the leader of the group, Comrade Victor Kalu, said the call for NASIEC to provide a level playing ground for all Political Parties became necessary as such would led to peace, before, during and after the election.
According to him his team has already had an interface with leaders of Political Parties, Police, Civil defence Corps and the election empire and observed that the State Electoral body has concluded arrangements to conduct a peaceful, free and fair election, adding that Security agencies in the area are also ready to provide adequate security during the exercise.
Kalu, who commended the State Governor for the decision to conduct Councils election at a time when some other governors are out there giving different excuses, appealed to the State Government to declare this Week Tuesday a half working day to enable those who have to travel to their localities to participate in the election to do so.
Similarly, the Organization charged the State Government to declare Wednesday a Work free day to pave way for the electorates to exercise their franchise.
The group leader also called on Political Parties and the electorates to support the electoral body to enable it conduct a credible election.
