Gunmen abduct ex- Anambra lawmaker, demand ransom in dollars

Gunmen have again abducted a former House of Assembly member in Anambra State, Benson Nwawulu.

This is coming barely two months after a sitting lawmaker in the state, Okechukwu Okoye was abducted and beheaded.

Another ex-lawmaker in the state, Nelson Achukwu, was abducted in June and killed by yet- to-be- identified hoodlums.

On Wednesday, a family source, who pleaded anonymity told journalists in Awka that Nwawulu, was abducted in his Ihiala country home in the Ihiala Local Government Area of the state.

Though details of his abduction were not yet made public, the family source said the former lawmaker’s son had reached out to some members of the Sate Assembly who were Nwawulu’s colleagues for funds to pay the random which the source said was demanded in dollars by his captors.

Nwawulu left Anambra Assembly in 2019, and had unsuccessfully contested for House of Representatives for Ihiala Federal constituency.

The state police command confirmed Nwawulu’s kidnap, saying that efforts were at advanced stage to release him.

The state police command’s spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga who spoke to our correspondent said, “Yes, he was kidnapped and we are working to release him. He will be rescued soon, because we are on their trail, and efforts are in n top gear, and soon he will be rescued.”
