Gunmen Attack Imo Police Station

Unknown gunmen have killed two police officers and burnt over ten vehicles during an attack on Njaba Divisional Police station in Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State on Saturday.

The attackers also razed the buildings belonging to the Njaba Police station during the attack.

According to an eyewitness, the attackers who wore black attire, were in their convoy when they attacked the police station on Saturday afternoon.

“These men who attacked the Njaba Police station were in their convoy and they wore black attire. When they came, they started shooting in the air and people ran away.

“They moved into the police station and killed about two persons there and burnt the police station. They may have taken away some arms and ammunition in the police station and released those in detention,” a source told Vanguard.

It was learned that the gunmen beheaded a motorist and chopped off his legs and arms at Okwudor junction in Njaba Local Government Area on Saturday.

According to reports, the motorist was plying Owerri/Orlu road in his Siena vehicle ash colour when he was attacked and killed.

Reacting, the State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mike Abatam, said two of the suspected hoodlums had been killed and that the Operation Restore Peace team of the police had cordoned off the Njaba area.

He said: “Meanwhile, cordon and pursuant exercise is ongoing in the area and members of the public residing in the area should not panic as the ongoing Police clearance operation is designed to root out violent criminals in that axis and they should avail Police information of persons seen treating bullet wounds or hiding within the community be reported to the nearest police station.”
