In its effort towards encouraging selfless services to humanity, the Happy Women Rural Initiative, a non-profit organisation has honoured certain charitable trailblazers who have done exceedingly well in various ways in impacting lives.
The founder and convener of Happy Women Rural Initiative, Barrister Ugonna Kalu presented plagues and certificate of awards to these distinguished individuals on Friday in Abuja, during its 2nd Edition of Global Conference and Award Ceremony with the theme “Celebrating Philanthropy”.
The awardees are Amb. Okedeyi Gafaru; Mrs. Amina Zayyana; Dr. Sylvester Ehimare; Hon. Onyekachi Kagha; Ms. Imade Bibowei-Osuobeni; Mrs. Tolulope Tunde-Ajiboye; Dr. Lola Ayo-Fashida; Mrs. Olubunmi Gbadewole; Maimuna Abdulmudallib; Ms. Evuarherhe Florence; Ms. Amarachi Kalu; Barr. Anisa Mohammed; Ms. Bosede Oyelakin and Ms. Bello Dasloa.
Barrister Kalu said the gesture was to acknowledge the selfless services of these individuals and organisations who have become beacons of hope and catalysts for positive change.
The convener who expressed her heartfelt appreciation to the awardees and everyone that helped in making the conference a success, said philanthropy in its various forms, has the power to bridge gaps, uplift spirits and create a ripple effect of positive change.
“It is a force that goes beyond financial contribution; it’s a commitment to making the world a better place for generations to come”, she added.
The Assistant Director, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) Abuja Zonal Office, Mrs. Chika Chukwudi, in her presentation titled “Effective Communication Skills for Women in Business” took participants through the importance of applying communication skills in their various levels of business.
Defining effective communication as the ability to convey a message in a manner intended buy to the sender with the recipient understanding the same message, Mrs. Chukwudi advised women in business to become effective communicators as it remains the key catalyst for unlocking so many business opportunities.
She explained further: “Effective communication is an essential skill for achieving success in all areas of life be it personal, professional or business communication. A powerful tool to help create meaningful connection with the right business partners, help create awareness about investment opportunities and taking the information to a wide audience. ”
While maintaining the importance of effective communication, she highlighted six principles that must be adopted to boost communication skills in businesses to include, being genuine and authentic, do more of listening than talking, willingness to socialize, be professional yet friendly, ensure to make a follow-up and offering genuine help.
Also speaking, Dr. Christopher Obinna, an educationist and administrator, centered his discussion on how business owners can leverage digital technology for economic growth.
Obinna who encouraged the adoption of a leadership style especially in a dynamic and rapid changing world like ours, based on personal experience from previous leaders, listed seven strategies to becoming an empowering technology leaders which are; to align personal values with the company values and culture, be transparent to create trust, bring clarity about the vision, goals and success, build a community, lead by example and help prepare and empower the next panel
The global conference and awards also witnessed a panel session of four panelists namely Aishat Bashir Tukur, Dr Joy Audu, Mrs Muomah Priscilla Ejura and Mr Timothy Solomon who shared insights on ways to achieving sustainable development in the business landscape.
Happy Women is a non-profit organissation that focuses on empowering and uplifting women in communities by providing them with the necessary tools, resources and support to enhance their socio-economic wellbeing.
