How Tunde Onakoya’s Deeds Illustrate Celebrities’ Ability To Advance Social Good

Nigerians celebrate as Tunde Onakoya’s 60-hour marathon chess game smashes the world record.
In an interview ,  Agwi Marvellous, CEO of Marvel Interiors, echoed Tunde’s efforts to advocate for child education and raise money for impoverished children by highlighting the importance of celebrities using their platforms for social good.

With his recent record-breaking performance in chess, Tunde has shown the enormous potential of young Nigerians and their talent, perseverance, and global competitiveness.

Marvellous also highlights how important it is for celebrities to use their platform for social good, noting that their participation may inspire positive change, organize resources, and increase awareness.

Marvellous highlights the importance of perseverance, strategic thinking, resilience, discipline, flexibility, emotional intelligence, and ongoing learning as traits essential for success in both chess and life.

She also talks about how public awareness efforts and extensive financial literacy initiatives might help address the problem of Naira abuse.

A number of issues are brought up, including the fairness of judicial sentencing, how growing electricity prices affect residents and businesses, and how the government should encourage renewable energy sources despite their rising costs.

The recent record-breaking performance in chess by Tunde Onakoya is a major achievement for Nigeria. What does this accomplishment indicate about the potential of Nigerian youth?

“Tunde’s recent record-breaking performance in chess is a major victory for the nation overall and emphasizes the enormous potential of young Nigerians.

“It demonstrates our aptitude, tenacity, and capacity to succeed on a worldwide scale.”

A portion of Onakoya’s protracted chess match served as a fundraiser for impoverished kids. How crucial is it that public leaders and celebrities use their platforms for social good?

“It is imperative that public figures and celebrities use their platforms for social benefit. Their impact has the power to inspire constructive change, gather resources, and increase awareness.

Supporting charitable endeavors such as raising money for impoverished children allows them to have a significant influence and help solve social issues.

“Their participation can also inspire others to participate, expanding the impact and reach of charity endeavors.

Tunde Onakoya’s success in chess required extraordinary mental toughness and endurance. Which attributes, in your opinion, are crucial for success not just in chess, but in life?

“Success in chess in life requires not just mental attention and endurance but also traits like perseverance, strategic thinking, resilience, discipline, flexibility, emotional intelligence, and never-ending learning.

“These characteristics help people overcome obstacles, work toward their objectives, and prosper in a variety of contexts.”

The abuse of Naira and its repercussions have been the subject of extensive public discussion lately. How, in your opinion, can we teach Nigerians to value their currency more effectively?

“In my view, we should concentrate on putting in place thorough financial literacy initiatives in schools and communities to raise awareness about appreciating the naira.

“Public awareness campaigns can also emphasize the detrimental effects of currency abuse through a variety of media channels.”

It is reasonable to argue that Bobrisky’s sentence was not decided fairly, in my opinion.

“It suggests unequal treatment under the law if Bobrisky received jail time after pleading guilty, while Cubana Chief Priest, who faced similar charges, was able to secure bail despite pleading not guilty.”

“The consistent application of laws and penalties, irrespective of individual characteristics or circumstances, is essential to ensuring fairness in the legal system.”

Nigeria is seeing an increase in the cost of power. What impact do you believe this will have on regular people and businesses?

“In Nigeria, rising electricity prices are expected to drive up operational expenses for businesses, which would lower profitability and perhaps result in job losses.

Higher utility costs will put a pressure on household budgets and cause financial stress for regular people.

For example, the unit we buy for our home used to last seven days, but it barely lasts up to three days these days. This raises serious concerns.

Do you believe that more needs to be done by the Nigerian government to assist alternative energy sources in light of the country’s escalating electricity costs?

In Nigeria, where electricity prices are on the rise, the government ought to give priority to promoting alternate energy sources.

Putting money into renewable energy sources, like solar power, can boost economic growth, diversify the energy mix, and lessen reliance on pricey fossil fuels.

“This transition can promote economic development and environmental protection while enhancing energy security, affordability, and sustainability.”

What do you believe to be the main opportunities and problems that Nigeria is currently experiencing, given the recent trends?

Nigeria faces several significant obstacles, including infrastructural development, corruption, economic diversification, security concerns, and young unemployment.

On the other hand, opportunities exist for sustainable growth and prosperity through utilizing the nation’s people capital, natural resources, technology and innovation, regional leadership, and diaspora engagement.
