Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Governor of Kano State, has said that one of the major legacies of former President Goodluck Jonathan was his sack of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, on the basis of corruption.
Ganduje said this on Tuesday at the book launch of a book about Jonathan titled “Dear President Goodluck Jonathan (An Open Letter),” written by Bonaventure Phillips Melah.
Ganduje was of the opinion that the removal of Sanusi by Jonathan was a wise decision and that was why he “administered the drug to the sickness of Sanusi by removing him as the Emir of Kano during his tenure as president. According to the Kano State Governor, the appointment of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as Emir of Kano was a retaliation by the elders of Kano State against Jonathan on his decision to remove him as CBN governor.
“There was a lot of demonstration, a lot of burning tires here and there. And yet because of government backing, he sustained the stool,” he said.
“When I became the governor, I said Jonathan’s medicine is an important medicine. Even though I’m not an American doctor, that medicine will serve the same purpose to the same disease for the same patient. So I took my Jonathan medicine.”
Governor Ganduje who was the Special Guest of Honour for the event also said that Jonathan’s contribution to the education of Almajiri’s in Kano State was one he greatly appreciated.
Also present at the event was Senator Dino Melaye, Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State and other top dignitaries in Nigerian politics.
