Ekene Smith is a renowned professional stand up comedian, Actor, content creator and script writer of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
He is also the brain behind “Positive Youth talent discovery”. A quarterly comedy competition billed to entertain comedy lovers and discover new talents in stand up comedy in Nigeria.
Surulere comedy night competition, as the name implies is a comedy show that aims at discovering new and upcoming talents in stand up comedy.
A part of what the event strives to achieve is to bring back stand up comedy to people’s comfort zone, while also giving the contestants a platform to showcase their talents.
This is my second edition of the show. The first edition which took place in November 2023, recorded a huge success discovering 20 new stand up comedians in Ago palace.
Yes, my brother Emeka Smith who is a household name in the comedy industry in Nigeria,has been so supportive in encouraging me on how to go about the success of every edition. His good relationship with the CEO of Ojez Entertainment(Chief Joseph Odobeatu)got me the venue for this year’s edition.
Surulere comedy night competition is a free event an initiative of Ekene Smith Adigwu and in Collaboration with Ojez Restaurant and Bar. It aims at reaching out to raw and upcoming talent in stand up comedy, have them compete against each other while offering entertainment to a matured and family friendly audience.
Every edition rewards the best comedian and other consolation prizes to the 2nd and 3rd runner up with a cash price. The event this year is been scheduled to hold on 31st of March, 2024 (Easter Sunday) At Ojez Restaurant and Bar, inside the National stadium surulere Lagos and proudly sponsored by Chen Homes Limited Real Estate.
