Ikpeazu Empowers Local Government Chairmen On Security

Following the increase in security threats in and around Abia state, the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, has adopted a new security architecture, that empowers Abia local government chairmen’s the more on the security of the state.
The Governor disclosed this new measure in a meeting held with the 17 Local government Area Executive Chairmen in the state and some stakeholders in the security sector of the state at the Governor’s lodge in Aba on Tuesday evening.
Ikpeazu used the forum to announce far-reaching strategic security measures at ensuring the effective security of the state.
He said that henceforth the Executive Chairmen in their various Local government will coordinate the security apparatus in their areas in consultation with relevant stakeholders.
Governor Ikpeazu said that what he is doing today is what they have been telling the federal government to allow the various state governments to have sufficient grip of the security apparatus in the states so that they can take necessary action quickly whenever there is a security breach.
He called on the Chairmen to be dispassionate in choosing those that will head the security outfits at the community and local government levels, adding that leadership of each group of the personal will be armed with relevant gadgets for prompt and effective communication and dissemination of information.
The Governor charge them to provide extra support for logistics where necessary in terms of training and other issues connected with security.
“I want to state that the local government area Chairmen are free to make adjustments according to the peculiarities and circumstances of their various Local government which they feel well be more effective”, he stated.
It will be recalled that over the weekend, the commissioner for information Abia state, Chief John Okeiyi Kalu raised security alarm, stating that Government has uncovered plots by a renegade group to attack and kidnap prominent persons in the state and hold them as human shields and ransom for negotiation.
