On Tuesday night, Super Eagles vice captain William Troost-Ekong underwent a successful operation in Finland.
During Nigeria’s second match of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations against hosts Cote d’Ivoire, Troost-Ekong suffered a hamstring injury.
The center defender participated in six of the seven games the Super Eagles played in Cote d’Ivoire despite the injury.
With three goals, the defender was a major contributor to Nigeria’s second-place result in the tournament.
Troost-Ekong, who won Player of the Tournament, is now the AFCON’s highest-scoring defender ever.
It is anticipated that he would make a comeback later in the season.
