An advocacy and sensitization by Men and Boys has been launched with the aim to end violence against Women and Girls.
BACBAB For Women’s Human Rights on Saturday in collaboration of 16 Days Activism to End Gender-Based Violence kicked off the One Kilometer walk from the palace of the district head of New Nyanya, Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
In theme; Men! Arise!!, Prevent Violence Against Women!!!, first visited the district head to seek his support in the Fight Against Gender Based Violence Against Women and Girls.
The convener , Mr Obi Onyeigwe in an interview after a one hour walk told newsmen that the activity was part of a 16 Days activism that focuses on eleminating gender based violence against women and girls in the society.
” That mean , we are here to create the awareness as well as sensitized the populace , prevent women and physical violence against women and girls, as much as the abused of women and girls in every community.
“Specifically, this campaign is launched by using men and boys to create awareness within the communities and you can see today we have walked from Nyanya Gwandara to Ado junction , just to create awareness which is to let the world know that men are taking actions to reducing gender based violence ” He posited
Mr Obi also further explained that although they are not into enforcement of the laws against gender based violence but that the organisation spearheading the awareness and advocacy has mechanisms put in place through synergy with NAPTIN , the security in areas where they dictates cases that are beyond their control.
He said part of the modalities also includes sensitizing heads of schools , especially the tertiary institutions to educate them as leaders on the need to prevent menace against women and girls.
Also , the presentative of the district head Nyanya Gwandara , Mr Zaphania Bojeaba , who is also the youth leader in the area , said the programme was apt in time and we’ll go a long way to help the community.
He appreciated the organizers of the event for considering the community for the kickoff of the awareness campaign.
“Because there are a lot of such cases of violence against women going on here for sometimes now. And with this awareness, it will reduce such occurrences amongst our people” He added.
