Inauguration: Tinubu, Shettima to be conferred GCFR, GCON May 25

Ahead of the scheduled presidential inauguration on May 29, the President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu will on Thursday (May 25) be conferred with the highest national honour award in the country, the Grand Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (GCFR) while the Vice President-elect Kashim Shettima will be conferred with the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON) by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The investiture of the awards on the in-coming leaders is part of the programmes lined up for the presidential inauguration programme of events, as released by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and Chairman of the Presidential Transition Council (PTC), Mr Boss Mustapha on Thursday.

Mustapha, who made the release in a press conference, said the theme of the inauguration of the 16th President and Vice President is: “Nigeria: Better together”.

He explained that the event would be historically significant to the country and the international community, particularly Africa because of the democratic values and lessons in nationhood, and also gave a breakdown of events, starting with the unveiling of programme of activities at the Press Conference and closing with the inauguration parade/swearing-in  and post-inauguration luncheon on Monday, May 29, 2023.

“All events will be broadcast live on all major stations and streamed on various social media platforms. Detailed information including accreditation arrangements, would be provided by the Media and Publicity sub-Committee.

“So far invitations have been sent to the Presidents and Heads of Government as well as Heads of International Organisations. We are also glad to report that many of these invitees have confirmed attendance in person.

“Ladies and gentlemen, this event is historic for our nation and I enjoin everyone to embrace this moment as proud Nigerians. It is a moment made for togetherness, unity, peace and progress.

“Finally, let me assure everyone that adequate arrangements have been made for the safety and security of all people throughout the inauguration period”, he said.
