The Police have deployed adequate personnel nationwide to provide protection for the citizens, critical national infrastructure to ensure success of activities lined-up for the country’s 62nd Independence Anniversary on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2022.
The force said this was to prevent any untoward situation throughout the period of the celebration and beyond.
Force spokesman, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said in a statement on Friday that the Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Mr. Usman Alkali Baba, directed the deployment of the personnel.
Adejobi also said the IGP had directed Strategic Police Managers comprising Assistant Inspectors General of Police and Commissioners of Police in all the Zonal and State Commands and the FCT, to ensure high visibility and confidence boosting patrols around the venues of the celebrations, residential areas and other public places to prevent infiltration by hostile elements and ensure a peaceful celebration.
The IGP congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari and Nigerians at large, on the occasion of the 62nd Independence Anniversary celebration and pledged the unalloyed loyalty and dedication of the police to safeguard the sovereignty of the country as well as their unflinching commitment to combating crimes and criminality in the country and ensuring the safety of the citizenry.
Baba called on the citizens to cooperate with officers of the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies for improved security management at various public gatherings during the Independence celebration.
He also urged them to imbibe the spirit of tolerance, adding that this is vital in a multi-cultural society like Nigeria.
