Insecurity: NSCDC trains officers on intelligence gathering, investigation

BY DAVID ADUGE-ANI, ABUJA

Worried by the rate of insecurity in the nation’s capital, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Federal Capital Territory(FCT) Command, has begun a three-day training workshop for its intelligence and investigation officers.

Our reporter gathered that the training workshop has resource persons drawn from the military,  the Nigeria Police,  Department of State Services(DSS) and the judiciary.

The Deputy Commandant General (DCG) in charge of intelligence and investigation directorate at the NSCDC national headquarters, Dr Nnamdi Nwiyi, while declaring the workshop open, noted that the training would enhance the professional capabilities and motivate the officers to strive for excellence.

Represented  by the Assistant Commandant General(ACG), Iskilu Makinde Ayinla, Nwiyi pointed out that the training also marks a significant milestone, not only in the Command but also in the Corps as a whole, even as he called on other state Commands to emulate the FCT Command.

Speaking earlier,  the FCT-NSCDC Commandant, Dr Olusola Odumosu, explained that the training is meant to refine, reshape and introduce modern techniques to the officers, and to make them well grounded in their career as intelligence personnel and investigators.

In a statement by the public relations officer of the Command,

CSC Samuel A. Idoko, Odumosu  noted that the training is a valuable opportunity for the personnel to learn and develop their skills, adding that the Intelligence and Investigation department of the Command is the engine room of every operation, which the officers must be abreast with.

He urged the officers to stay attentive and to be actively engaged through out the training sessions, adding that they must be a step ahead of criminals if they must stop them from carrying out their nefarious activities.

“We must not be reactive, but proactive, to prevent vandals and other economic saboteur from destroying our common wealth”,  he concluded.

The workshop has as its theme, “Modern Techniques In Intelligence Processing, Criminal Investigation and Procedural Modules”.
