IPOB Sit-at-home records partial compliance in Ebonyi as 3 persons allegedly shot

Abakaliki, capital of Ebonyi State recorded 80 percent compliance to the sit-at-home order declared by the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

It was gathered that Schools, Shops, banks and other businesses in the city including the Margret Umahi International Market, were shut down.

Also, transport depots located along Afikpo road, fuel stations located along Enugu/Abakaliki expressway and many government and private institutions were equally shut down.

However, our correspondent, who visited major streets and roads in the city observed some cars, commercial tricycles and motorcycles were operating while students writing the National Examination Council (NECO) exams were seen going to school for the Exam.

Recall that Governor David Umahi had directed the people of the State to ignore the IPOB directive and go about their normal business activities.

Umahi in a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity Francis Nwaze said all Markets, banks and schools must operate on Monday, August 9, 2021, and thereafter

He said security agencies have been directed to maintain law and order and ensure that all law-abiding citizens go about their duties unmolested.

The Statement reads:

“Ebonyi State Government is presently doing everything possible to develop the state across all sectors – education, security, health, agriculture, human capital development, infrastructure, and so on, it is inconsequential to draw the state backwards through temporary deactivation of her economic activities in the guise of a sit at home order”.

“To this end, the Governor, Engr. David Nweze Umahi, FNSE, FNATE wishes to inform the general public that Monday, August 9, 2021, is a working day, just like every other working day in the state. Markets, banks, schools, etc. will operate normally”.

“Consequent upon this, the general public is urged to feel free to go about their lawful businesses in consonance with COVID-19 protocol and the Executive Order of the Governor on social gathering without any fear of intimidation or molestation, both on the said date and thereafter”.

“The youths and members of the public are seriously advised to desist from engaging in any activities that are capable of breaking down of law as it resultant effect is dwindling of the economy of the state”.

“To this end, Security Agencies in the state are by this announcement directed to maintain law and order and ensure that all law-abiding citizens go about their duties unmolested”. The Statement stated.

Meanwhile, an Unconfirmed report has it that three persons were allegedly killed in Obiozara, Ebonyi State for allegedly defying the sit at home order.
