According to a US intelligence officer, Iran is attempting to undermine Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s campaign.
According to a US intelligence official with the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), Iran intended to use online influence operations to carry out the operation, as Fox News reports.
Speaking to reporters during a news conference on Monday, the unnamed official stated that US spy services had “observed Tehran working to influence the presidential election,” most likely due to Iranian officials’ desire to prevent escalating hostilities with the US.
According to the insider, Iran was still aiming for Trump since American spies “haven’t observed a shift in Iran’s preferences” since 2020.
In addition to these online tactics, the official claimed that Iran is using “vast webs of online personas and propaganda mills to spread disinformation.”
