JMDB seals an illegal warehouse in Jos
The Jos Metropolitan Development Board has sealed a warehouse in Jos for operating illegally without government approval.
Mr Hart Bankat, JMDB General Manager, said that the warehouse will remain sealed until further notice from the board.
Bankat stated that the board realized that the owner was occupying a building that was a bank and has been converted into a warehouse.
He stressed that the board was not aware of any approval given for such.
“That is why we are here to seal it. And as we have sealed it now, it is important to note that breaking this seal before any further documentation or comment from the board will result in a fine of N10 million,” he said.
Meanwhile, articulated vehicles parked in front of the building with some wares were towed away by board in line with the executive order issued by the Plateau Governor.
Bankat said that the governor’s order, which took effect on March 19, 2024, prohibits indiscriminate parking of vehicles by the roadside, especially articulated vehicles.
“We met a group of recastitrant people who said they were beyond government.
“After refusing to be arrested, even after being caught outside, they deliberately stopped us from even talking or negotiating with them.
“Like I have always said, we are back to an era where the law has to be respected, irrespective of whose ox is gored.
“And we are not saying it to intimidate anybody. We are rather saying it because we need to bring law back to this land and we need to bring order into our society,” he stated.
He announced the enforcement of the executive order would last for 90 days and urged the public to obey the order.
