Jos: Society moves to revive, revamp chapter through engagements, consultation of stakeholders

Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society (NMGS), Plateau state chapter, has put in motion plans to revive, revamp and reposition its chapter through consultations, interactions, engagements and involvement of all the stakeholders to move the society forward.

The newly elected Chairman of the Nigerian mining and geosciences society Jos chapter, Dr Raymond Ishaya Daspan, stated this today during his investiture as the seventh NMGS chairman Jos chapter.

According to him, the society will encourage and build strong synergy between the chapter and the various stakeholders and sister professional bodies.

He added that plans are on ground to pursue aggressive membership drive to ensure that qualified graduates are registered while those of COMEG are encouraged to do so.

He added that the new leadership of mining and geosciences society, Jos chapter, is to host sponsored television program tagged “geosciences and you” or “geosciences and society” and quiz competition among polytechnics and universities running geoscience and mining undergraduate courses.

Similarly, Daspan said his organization will institute prizes for the best graduating student on geology and mining engineering to promote academic excellence and as well promote proper ethical conduct among its members through education and imposition of sanctions on  erring members .

He also disclosed that Jos chapter of Nigerian mining and geosciences society will work with the national body of the society to restore the lost glory of the secretariat now referred to as the NMGS national museum  and Liaison Office so that it can be put into proper and profitable use.

Guest Speaker at the occasion, Dr Mathew E Offodile, and NMGS President Alabo C D Charles, charged members of the association to work for the development and growth of the Nigerian society of mining engineers in the country.
