Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued a 40-year-old kidnapped resident, recovered 18 rustled cattle and arrested four suspected drug peddlers in separate operations in Kebbi State.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lt.-Col. Aliyu Danja, said the operations were conducted at the weekend in Danko-Wasagu and Maiyama Local Government Areas, with troops working alongside local vigilantes and personnel of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
In Rambo Village, Danko-Wasagu LGA, troops of Sector 2, acting on a distress call, responded to an invasion by suspected terrorists who reportedly intended to kidnap residents and rustle cattle. The troops mobilised to the community, engaged the assailants in a firefight and rescued the victim, identified as Suleiman Maiyaki Ikara, while recovering 18 cattle taken by the attackers.
The rescued man and the recovered livestock were subsequently handed over to the District Head of Rambo Village for further action. In a separate operation on the same day, troops of Sector 2 and NDLEA personnel raided suspected drug trafficking locations in Dakin Kowa, Karaye and Gubba communities in Maiyama LGA.
The operation resulted in the arrest of four suspects and the recovery of substances suspected to be illicit drugs. The suspects and recovered substances are currently in the custody of the NDLEA Command in Maiyama for further investigation and necessary action.
Danja said the task force remained committed to sustaining offensive operations against terrorists and other criminal elements across its joint operations area.
He also appreciated the continued support and cooperation of local communities, urging residents to provide security agencies with timely and credible information to strengthen ongoing operations.
