Leaders of Civil Society Tell Tinubu to Address Hardships or Forget 2027

President Bola Tinubu has been ordered by the United Action Front of the Civil Society, a collection of civic organizations and leaders, to find an immediate solution to the hunger and hardship crisis or risk losing the chance to run for office in 2027.

They also denounced President Bola Tinubu’s remarks, made in Lagos during the red line commissioning, stating that Labour should meet with him in 2027 if they are interested in participating in the election process and that Labour is not the exclusive voice of the people.

“For us, this statement by Tinubu is not only delusional but malicious against the pro-people Labour Movement operating in open society of Nigeria,” the group stated in a statement signed by Mallam Hamisu San Turaki, its spokeswoman.

“Our well-considered position on this matter is that, given the current state of affairs, the majority of Nigerians will be forced to storm and occupy the Aso Presidential Villa and all other government houses in Nigeria within the next few weeks if nothing drastic is done to stem the tide. This is especially true if the country’s hunger and hardship are allowed to fester to the point where it may not be the 2027 that Tinubu and his fellow travelers so desperately hope for.

As a result, we would like to advise the Tinubu Government that instead of criticizing Labour for offering a coordinated and nonviolent response to the widespread resentment and disillusionment in the country, they ought to have been applauded and supported because other voices, if given a chance to be heard, may be even more vicious and disruptive, just as history has shown humanity that those who “make peaceful change impossible in history make violent change inevitable.”

In light of this, the statement said, “We wish to caution Tinubu strongly not to see organized bodies of the open society of Nigeria like the NLC as enemies of government or politically motivated to challenge the negative economic policies of his administration but as sincere partners in progress different from sycophants and jobbers around corridors of power.” The statement was signed by responsible leaders of the organized Civil Society of Nigeria, who took part fully in the nationwide mass protest organized by Labour.
