The popular Lekki Tollgate in Lagos stood peacefully as at 9am on Saturday as uncertainty attended the proposed protests against the reopening of the gate.
However, the police which have taken over the place since yesterday evening are being accused of arresting innocent people going to their offices mistaking them for protesters.
This is as the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, said the tollgate is peaceful and residents should go about their lawful business without fears.
He said it is the right of those who want to protest to do so.
He, however, cautioned that such protests must not be pursued in manners that obstruct the rights of other residents.
Odumosu said Lekki area is a major economic nerve centre of the state adding that the area also hosts a number of medical facilities with possible emergencies.
